演讲人简介:
 
Dr. Uma Lele has recently started serving as Chief Executive Officer of the DFID funded Consortium of international and regional institutions led by the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation in India addressing issues of Leveraging Agriculture for Nutrition in South Asia (LANSA). She has worked in various capacities at the World Bank and other institutions in the areas of food, agriculture, health, environment, global public goods, external assistance and aid effectiveness. After 30+ years of employment, she left services of the World Bank in 2005 as Senior Advisor in the Operations Evaluation Department, now called the Independent Evaluation Group (IEG). She led some of the most complex evaluations from the World Bank’s IEG including its highly controversial 1991 forest strategy in 1999 -2000, the Meta-Evaluation of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) in 2003, and the World Bank’s Approach to Globalization 2002- 2005.With Professor Shen Gaofang, she co-chaired the CCICED (China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development) taskforce on the Forests and Grasslands in the Development of the West in 2000 and 2001.She was a panel member of the first ever Independent External Evaluation (IEE) of the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in 2007.She published a Meta evaluation of the work of the international organizations concerned with the Global Environment in 2009 and led the theme paper for the first Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development, GCARD, in Montpellier, France in 2010. She is currently working on the issues of the Global Architecture for Food and Agriculture and on the comparative performance of China, India, Brazil and Indonesia. She has served or currently serves on the Technical Advisory Committee of the Global Water Partnership, the High level Advisory Panels of evaluations conducted by international organizations, such as the GEF, UNDP and UNICEF and is on boards of directors IDS, Sussex, UK, and the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai, India. She has been visiting Professor of Agricultural Economics at Cornell University, A Graduate Research Professor and Director of International Studies at the University of Florida (1991-1995) and .Director of President Carter’s Global Development Initiative in 1992-94.
 
She has a Ph.D. from Cornell University and is a Fellow of the American Applied and Agricultural Economics Association and of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, India. She has written or co-authored 15 books or book length published reports of the World Bank. A micro-philanthropist, she has supported work to empower women in India, launched an award on the Best Research on Gender at the International Agricultural Economics Association and supports work on Food Security and climate change from the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation.
